Day Before Exam:

  • Take only clear liquids for 48 hours prior to your examintion.
  • Take 10 ounces of Magnesium Citrate at  4 p.m. the day before your exam.  Drink at least a quart of a clear liquid after taking the Magnesium Citrate.
  • Take another 10 ounces of Magnesium Citrate before your evening meal on the day prior to your exam.  Drink at least a quart of a clear liquid.
  • Take 3 Dulcolax tablets at 8 p.m. on the same evening.


Day of Exam:

  • Take two disposable enemas the morning of your exam.  Take one enema and expel it, then take the other enema and expel it.  This should be completed more than two hours before your examination so that all of the enema is expelled.
  • No liquids after midnight, except as below.
  • Three hours before you leave for your appointment, add 1 1/2 fluid ounces (3 Tablespoonfuls) Fleet Phospho-soda to one-half glass (4 fluid ounces) of cool water and drink.
  • Follow with one full glass (8 fluid ounces) of approved clear liquid
  • If your test is scheduled in the morning, heart and blood pressure medications may be taken with a small amount of water about 6:00 a.m.
  • If your test is scheduled after 12 Noon, you may have a clear liquid breakfast and take your morning dose of medications routinely used, if any.  Do not take any liquids after 8:30 a.m.
