Day Before Exam:

• Please eat a low-residue diet for two days before your exam.  Some suggestions would be clear fruit juices, cream of wheat, rice krispies, any style eggs, dry cottage cheese, baked skinless fish, canned baby meat, plain noodles, plain macaroni, 2 tablespoons of oil or butter per day, plain Jell-O, moderate amount of sugar, marshmallows, vanilla or sugar wafers, clear broth or bouillon, tea, weak coffee, pop, Gatorade. No milk, bread, fruits or vegetables.
• Take 3 Dulcolax tables at 8:00 p.m. two days before your test (do not take these if you have a history of Crohn's disease or colitis).
• No solid food after 4 p.m. the evening before your exam.
• On evening before exam, mix contents of all packets of NuLytely/Colyte in one gallon of distilled water. 
• Take Reglan at 4-5 p.m., 45 minutes prior to drinking the first glass of NuLytely/Colyte.
• Drink 8 ounces of NuLytely/Colyte every 15 minutes until the colon effluent (output) is clear.  You may need to drink 1-2 quarts before seeing any results.  This is normal. 
• Do not take anything by mouth after midnight before the procedure unless your test is scheduled for after 12 noon.
• Most patients need to drink the complete gallon of NuLytely/Colyte solution to get the best results.
• We suggest the liquid be room temperature for drinking.

Day of Exam:

• If your test is scheduled in the morning, heart and blood pressure medications may be taken with a small amount of water about 6:00 a.m.
• If your test is scheduled after 12 Noon, you may have a clear liquid breakfast and take your morning dose of medications routinely used, if any.  Do not take any liquids after 8:30 a.m. 
• Take one Fleet enema one hour before leaving for your exam (if you have a history of Crohn's disease or colitis, avoid Fleet enema and use a tap water enema).
